Reto Picante at Be Veggie: The Ardor Fest Was a Success

In short: The Reto Picante, the chili challenge for chili lovers, was a success at Be Veggie in Irún. Pikantista and Meraki Gourmet organized it, and Xabier Larrañaga hosted it. 10 people took part on Saturday and 9 on Sunday.

The Ardor Fest at Be Veggie

On 31 October and 1 November, Be Veggie, the vegan festival of the Basque Country, took place at FICOBA in Irún. At the Ardor Fest there was a Reto Picante on both days, the challenge for everyone who likes it hot. We organized it together with Meraki Gourmet. Xabier Larrañaga hosted the rounds, explained each product and talked with the participants.

How the challenge worked

There were 7 rounds with 7 products of rising heat: sauces, chili powder, fresh chilies and chili puree. The chili powder (Just Chili) and the Carolina Reaper puree came from Doctor Salsas. We presented them nicely, for example carne mechada with Carolina Reaper puree on top and chili powder as a garnish. You can find the matching powder with us: Just Chili Carolina Reaper Powder. More about the brand is on our Doctor Salsas page.

As a base there were vegan products from the festival. Thanks to these three companies:

The rules were simple: in every round you had to eat everything served, except the stem of the chilies. Anyone who had to drink plant milk was out.

The winners

Each day had a winner with the Ardor Fest trophy. The prize was a meal at a sponsor restaurant and credit at Meraki Gourmet.
