Crazy Bastard Sauce – Handmade Hot Sauces without Compromise

Crazy Bastard Sauce stands for what makes great hot sauces: natural heat, honest ingredients and real passion. Founded by Jonathan O'Reilly – better known as "Jono" – the brand is today one of the most recognised handmade hot sauce brands in Germany. Pikantistas are chili lovers and food enthusiasts – just like you.

History – Crazy Bastard Sauce & Pikantista

As a long-time chili fan, Jonathan O'Reilly was looking for a hot sauce that isn't just hot, but puts the characteristic flavour and heat of the chili peppers front and centre. With that goal in mind, he founded Crazy Bastard Sauce – handmade chili sauces defined by high quality and natural heat.

The story of Crazy Bastard Sauce and Pikantista has been running in parallel for a while. Fabian – founder behind Pika Pika Chili Compositions and later Chili Mafia Hot Sauces – was living in Berlin when he first met Jonathan at the Chili & BBQ Festival in Hanover. Several crates of beer at the corner shop near the Fössebad later, it was clear: two people connected by the same passion. Pikantista!

The two kept crossing paths as exhibitors and producers at the Dutch Chili Fest in Eindhoven and at Berlin's Mauerpark. In 2017 Fabian moved to Trier – the friendship stayed. When Chili Mafia became more than a hobby project in 2019, the friendship grew into a real business relationship. A Crazy Bastard Sauce was part of the very first edition of the Chili Mafia Box from day one.

An Irishman and a Venezuelan – Jon and Fabian have made a small but real contribution to the development of the hot sauce market in Germany.

What makes Crazy Bastard Sauce special

No compromises on ingredients

No extracts, no thickeners, no artificial additives, no water as filler. Every Crazy Bastard chili sauce showcases the natural heat and real flavour of the chili peppers used – no shortcuts.

Straight from the source – Carolina Reaper

For the Black Label sauce, Jonathan's chili grower travelled personally to Smokin' Ed Curlin in South Carolina – the breeder of the Carolina Reaper – to obtain the original seeds directly at the source. This isn't a marketing story, it's genuine effort for genuine quality.

Social commitment

Crazy Bastard Sauce has collaborated with various social communities, including Rigaer78 – one of the last communally managed residential blocks in Berlin, run by social activists providing affordable housing for people who have fallen through the social safety net.

Award-winning quality

The Habanero & Tomatillo Sauce has already won five international awards – including the Hot Pepper Awards, World Hot Sauce Awards and Great Taste Awards. Not self-proclaimed, but confirmed by the industry.
