The Purple Jalapeño is a Capsicum annuum variety from Mexico. The fruits, up to 10 cm long, ripen from purple to red. They are very popular for their juicy, aromatic flesh and have a pleasantly hot Scoville rating of between 2,000 and 8,000 SHU (Scoville heat units).

Jalapeños often have a cracked, corky skin, which is regarded as a sign of quality in Mexico. Jalapeños are one of the few chilies that also taste very good when green and unripe. When fully ripe and red, they develop a pleasant sweetness. With their mild heat, jalapeños are excellent eaten fresh as well as for cooking, stuffing, pickling and grilling.
The plant grows up to 100 cm tall and should be placed in a sunny, sheltered spot with at least 6 hours of sunlight, preferably more. If you plant them outdoors, space the plants 45 cm apart. Green fruits can be harvested after about 60–65 days, red jalapeños after about 80 to 90 days.
The germination temperature is between 22 and 28°C, with a germination time of 6–20 days.

This is possibly the best chilli sauce I've ever had, loads of fruit from all the berries, and a real kick from the Scorpions. Particularly good with wild boar and venison.
